Men's Golf Finishes 9th At Hampton Inn Collegiate Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf squad finished 9th overall on the team leaderboard after the final round of action at the 2017 Hampton Inn Collegiate Invitational, hosted by UMass-Dartmouth, at the Allendale Country Club Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers improved by 12 strokes during the second round of competition, firing a team score of 662 (337-325) after two rounds of play. Junior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) carded a team-low 159 (81-78) to claim a share of 12th overall. Freshman William Marchand (Springfield, Mass.) finished tied at 36th with a 166 (85-81), while sophomore Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) was one stroke back at 167 (85-82) for a share of 40th. Freshman Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) shot a 170 (86-84) to finished tied at 55th, and junior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers, taking a share of 76th with a 176 (89-87).

Tufts University won the event with a score of 620 (310-310). Babson (626) took second, followed by Amherst (640, Husson (640), and Rhode Island College (646) composed the top 5 on the team leaderboard. UMass-Dartmouth (648) finished sixth, trailed by Salem State (653), Endicott (659), Elms, Nichols (664), Johnson & Wales (674), Springfield (683), Wentworth (685), Roger Williams (691), Suffolk (696) Castleton (717) and Maine Maritime (723).

The Blazers will return to the links for the Johnson & Wales Spring Invitational at Cranston Country Club on April 22 & 23.
