CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Elms College sophomore guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored 14 points, handed out eight assists and had four steals to help the Blazers down Wheelock College, 73-53 in Tuesday night’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s basketball game at Pine Manor College.

Elms has now won three consecutive games to improve to 6-10 on the season, 5-2 in the NECC. Wheelock falls to 3-11 overall, 2-3 in league action.

Trailing by three with under five minutes to play in the opening period, sophomore guard Katie Condon (Sandy Hook, Conn.) swished a three-pointer to knot the contest. The Blazers went on to score 11 of the final 17 points of the frame, posting a 40-35 lead at intermission.

Elms sprinted to a 17-point 58-41 lead on the strength of an 18-6 run to start the second half, and never allowed Wheelock to cut the lead to under 17 points.

Elms’ freshman guard Jen Normandie (Westford, Mass.) netted a game high 15 points, and Condon contributed 11 points as the two combined for 26 of the team's 29 points off the bench.

Senior forward Erin Hutchinson (Groton, Mass.) and senior guard Jessica Jurkowski (Belchertown, Mass.) both contributed eight points for the Blazers in the winning effort. Hutchinson and Jurkowski led the squad in rebounding, picking up nine and seven boards respectively.

For Wheelock, Sarah Brown (Plainville, Conn.) had a game-high 18 points, while Keneisha Milton (Boston, Mass.) secured a game-best 17 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Brown scored 16 of her points in the first as the Blazers held the Wildcats' hot shooter to just one second half bucket.

Elms returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 28 as they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to take on NECC opponent Lesley University. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
