BENNINGTON, V.T. – Elms College sophomore
guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored a
team-high 20 points, and dished out six assists to lead the Blazers
to a 74-64 win over Southern Vermont College in Saturday
afternoon’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)

With the win Elms improved to 5-10 on the season, and 4-2 in NECC
conference play, while Southern Vermont dropped to 2-13 on the
season, 1-7 in the NECC.
Trailing 69-62, Southern Vermont’s Alyssa Davis
(West Burke, V.T.) converted a layup with 1:47 remaining

Hook, Conn.), along with a jumper by senior guard
Jessica Jurkowski (Belchertown, Mass.) sealed the
74-64 win for Elms.
Leading 40-30 at halftime, Elms used back-to-back three-pointers
from Talmadge and senior guard Annie Dunnack (Mansfield
Center, Conn.) to jump out to a 16 point lead less than a
minute into the second half. Dunnack connected on another trey with
17:22 to go in the game to expand the Blazers’ lead to 20 at
52-32, and a jumper by sophomore guard Christina Korney
(Feeding Hills, Mass.) gave Elms a 21-point cushion with
15:43 to go in the contest.
Southern Vermont responded with a 12-2 run of their own, capped by
a layup from Kiara Bates (Washington, D.C.) to cut
the Blazers’ lead to 11 (60-49) at the 10:07 mark.
The Mountaineers strung together a 6-0 run, ignited by a put-back
from Bates at the 7:33 mark that cut Elm’s lead to seven at
64-57 with 4:30 to go. Elms then scored five of the next 10 points
to set the score at 69-62 to give the Blazers a seven point
edge.
Talmadge scored 11 of her team-high 20 points in the second
stanza, while Dunnack dropped in 15 on the day.
Senior forward Erin Hutchinson (Groton, Mass.)
and freshman guard Jen Normandie (Westford, Mass.)
both scored six points in the opening 20 minutes.
Jurkowski chipped in 12 points and hauled in seven rebounds, while
Hutchison finished with eight points and four boards in the
Blazers' win.
Southern Vermont received a large contribution from Davis who
scored a game-high 25 points, while Bates crashed the boards for a
game-best 19 rebounds.
Joa Claircius (Clermont, Fla.) added 14 points,
while Christie Henry (Essex, V.T.) pulled down 13
boards in the losing effort.
