CHICOPEE, Mass.- Elms College sophomore point guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Blazers past Bay Path College 60-44 in Saturday’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s basketball game at Picknelly Arena.

With the win Elms improves to 10-15 on the season, 9-7 in the NECC, while Bay Path drops to 5-19 overall, and 2-14 in NECC play.

Trailing 30-20 at intermission, the Wildcats cut the Blazer’s lead to 30-26 on the strength of two layups by Kathleen Rodrigue (W. Stewartstown, N.H.) and two free throws by Jessica Hunt (Madison, Conn.).

Elms answered with an 11-3 run highlighted by a three-pointer from senior forward Annie Dunnack (Mansfield Center, Conn.) which gave Elms a 35-26 lead with 12:24 left in the second frame. Senior guard Jessica Jurkowksi’s (Belchertown, Mass.) layup with 10:33 to go in the game capped off the Blazers’ run, and gave them a 41-27 lead.

A jumper by Bay Path's Brittney Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) with 10:13 remaining in the game brought the Wildcats within 12, 41-29, before Elms answered with two free throws by sophomore guard Christina Korney (Feeding Hills, Mass.), and a jumper by Talmadge to give the Blazers a 45-29 lead with 9:29 to go in the second half.

Bay Path cut its deficit to 12 on two occassions including a 55-43 score at the 3:46 mark, before Elms scored five of the final six points of the game to earn a 16-point victory.

Sophomore guard Katie Condon (Sandy Hook, Conn.) connected on 8 of 10 from the stripe, and finished with 14 points, and seven boards. Jurkowski added 11 points, and six rebounds of her own in the Blazers’ victory.

Senior forward Erin Hutchinson (Groton, Mass.) had seven points, and seven rebounds for  Elms in the win. Talmadge scored 10 of her 16 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Hunt posted a double-double, with a game-high 25 points, and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats in the loss. Alexander scored seven points, while Christina Calabrese (Hamilton, N.J.) added six points for Bay Path.

Saturday's contest concluded regular season action for the Blazers. Up next is the NECC Tournament beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
