Men’s And Women’s Basketball Set For NECC Tournament Semifinals

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men’s and women’s basketball programs will each compete in the semifinal round of the 2009-10 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament on Friday, Feb. 26.

Top-seeded Becker College will host the semifinal and championship rounds of the men’s tournament, while No. 1 Daniel Webster College will host the semifinal and championship matchups on the women’s side.

The Blazers’ second-seeded men’s team will take on No. 3 Wheelock College at 8:00 p.m. in Leicester, Mass. Elms finished 19-6 overall to earn the second seed. The Wildcats (16-10) downed No. 6 Daniel Webster 95-67 in quarterfinal action to advance to Friday’s semifinal contest. The winner will advance to Saturday’s championship game against either No. 1 Becker or fifth-seeded Lesley University at 2:00 p.m.

The fourth-seeded Elms women’s squad advanced to Friday’s semifinal showdown with No. 1 Daniel Webster (20-5) after ousting No. 5 Becker from the tournament with a 65-40 victory. The Blazers (11-15) will take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. in Nashua, N.H. The winner will then square off against the winner of third-seeded Mitchell College (13-11) and No. 2 Lesley (15-8) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
