Regis College Edges Field Hockey, 2-1 in Double Overtime Thriller

WESTON, Mass. – Elms College sophomore midfielder Abby McNulty (Bedford, Mass.) delivered the equalizing goal in the 53^rd minute of action to set the score at 1-1, but Regis College used a scoring strike from Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) in the 86^th minute of play to lift the Pride to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Regis Stadium.

With the loss, Elms moves to 5-13 overall, 4-2 in NECC action, while Regis improves to 7-10 overall, 5-1 in NECC play.

Yasmine Akib (Everett, Mass.) opened the scoring for Regis when she found the back of net following quick passing from O'Toole and Laurie DeMars (Maynard, Mass.) to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.

Regis held the advantage midway into the second half before McNulty capitalized on a long feed into the circle from junior defender Elizabeth Patient (Leicester, Mass.) to even the game at 1-1 in the 53^rd minute.

Blazers' junior midfielder Imogen Leonard (Sharon, Mass.) fired a shot at the 62:20 mark but Pride net-minder Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) turned it aside setting up the overtime period.

In the first frame of extra time, Sam Anderson (Sandwich, Mass.) rang a shot off the post and the Pride added two more shots but Elms' goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) kept the game level with two of her 10 saves.

In the second overtime period Shashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) fired a shot towards goal in the 86^th minute that was tipped in by O'Toole to give Regis the 2-1 win.

Heck finished with six saves in the winning effort.

Both teams now await the seeding in the NECC Championship tournament.
