Goodrow, Leonard Power Field Hockey Past Wheelock College, 5-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) scored her first two goals of the season and junior midfielder Imogen Leonard (Sharon, Mass.) tabbed a collegiate-career high four assists to help direct the Blazers to a 5-0 victory over Wheelock College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game in Boston, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-10 overall, 1-0 in league action, while Wheelock moves to 0-9 on the season, 0-1 in NECC action.

Elms controlled the ball most of the afternoon, owning an impressive 32-3 shot advantage and kept the pressure in its offensive zone with 21 penalty corners to Wheelock's one. 

The match was scoreless for the first 32 minutes of play until Blazers' sophomore defender Abby McNulty (Bedford, Mass.) sent a cross from outside the circle to Leonard's stick in front of the cage, which redirected the ball to set up Goodrow's first score at 32:21 for a 1-0 edge.  Goodrow wasted no time scoring her second goal of the day just 1:54 later, collecting the ball off a scrum in front of the cage, following a Leonard shot, and finding the back of the cage at 34:15 to extend the lead to 2-0 at intermission.

Senior midfielder Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) increased Elms' lead to 3-0, scoring less than five minutes into the second half.  She corralled the rebound off a shot from sophomore forward Kristina Kopyscinski (Agawam, Mass.) and buried her first tally of the year at the 39:28 mark. Leonard assisted on the final two scores for the Blazers.  Her shot rebounded off the Wildcats' keeper and was put back for Elms' fourth score by junior forward Tatiana Frizzell (Brattleboro, Vt.) at 60:59 of the second half.  Lyons capped the scoring for the Blazers with a shot off a cross from Leonard for her second tally of the day and a 5-0 lead with just 4:57 left to play in the contest.

Sophomore goalie Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) stopped all three shots she faced to record her first career shutout for Elms, while goalkeeper Michelle Greene (Mansfield, Mass.) made 18 saves for Wheelock to give her 447 for her career which makes her the school's all-time leader in the category.  The Wildcats' defense was also bolstered by midfielder Jen Ryan (Bellingham, Mass.) and freshman defender Grace Kim (Nashua, N.H.), who each recorded a pair of defensive saves.

Elms returns to NECC action when it hosts Becker College on Tuesday, October 8 at 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
