Alumni Field Hockey Game a Huge Success!

Alumni Field Hockey Game a Huge Success!

The Elms College field hockey team recently held its 2013 Alumni game.

Once again, the Alumni beat the current Blazers, but the victory did not come without a few slight "advantages". A new twist that was added into competition this year involved the option of buying game advantages such as penalty corners, green cards, yellow cards, and even goals. Not only was this a huge perk for the Alumni team but it was also a great way to show support to the current players by helping the program raise money for its trip to Holland in May, 2014.

The game proved to be an action packed event with the Alumni showcasing their field hockey skills time and time again. Led by recent graduate Ali Bonavita between the pipes and the stellar defensive trio of E-Mac, Rachel Schrutt, and KG, the current Elms players were stymied from even a single shot in the first half.

On the offensive line, the Alumni were unstoppable, with Sheila Gould earning several breakaways, Dani Boyer's diving goal, and Michelle's (fondly known as "Hoops") speedy offensive prowess. Rachel Butt was all over the field not only showcasing her stellar skills but could be heard from miles away calling for the ball. The Alumni team strategically used its "advantages" to earn several penalty corners as well as taking current Blazers' goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) out of the game for the final two minutes of play.

After the game, the Alumni retired to the Rumbleseat to reminisce about their years as student athletes at Elms College. There was certainly no shortage of hilarious stories to tell and additionally, post-game awards were handed out. This year the Gould's came away with "Best Dressed," and passionate alum Dani Boyer was given the much sought-after "Most Valuable Player" award.

Thanks to all for a successful Alumni game!
