Colby-Sawyer College Edges Field Hockey, 1-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Elms College junior forward Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) notched four shots on goal and sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) made three saves but Colby-Sawyer College used an early marker from Jess Buckley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to seal a hard-fought, 1-0 win in Sunday afternoon's non-conference field hockey team.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-3 on the season, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-2 overall.

Buckley put the Chargers ahead 1-0 just 2:46 into the contest when she controlled a feed from Brittany Grandbois (East Barre, Vt.) and deposited the ball in the cage.

From there, Colby-Sawyer managed just three more shots on net and Alvino turned away all three.

Narey led the Blazers' offensive effort with four of Elms' nine shots on goal while junior forward Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) had two shots on goal. However, Colby-Sawyer net-minder Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) made nine saves (six in the first half) and picked up her first win of the season.

Elms will host Western New England University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 at Leary Field in its 2013 home opener.
