Cebula Scores Two to Spark Women's Soccer to 6-1 Victory Over Newbury College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Victoria Cebula (Granby, Mass.) scored twice and the Blazers scored four second half goals to help seal a 6-1 victory in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 7-9-2 overall, 6-1-2 in NECC action, while Newbury moves to 3-10 overall, 2-7 in NECC play. The Blazers now await the seedings for the 2012 NECC Championship tournament.

Elms gained an early 2-0 advantage when Cebula opened the scoring at the 8:23 mark following a pass from freshman forward Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.). Sophomore midfielder Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.) added to the lead 1:12 later when she received a short cross from freshman forward Hannah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.) six yards out and deposited the ball into the back of the net to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.

Elms held its 2-0 edge for the remainder of the half before Newbury's Jamie Chernesky (Scotia, N.Y.) scored from 23 yards out on a pass from Nicole Garafalo (Winsted, Conn.) to pull the Nighthawks to within on at 2-1 at the 49:04 mark.

Cebula answered with a goal from 20 yards away on the first of two assists by sophomore midfielder Gina DiGiovanni (Springfield, Mass.) in the 54^th minute of play to give the Blazers a 3-1 advantage.

Hannah Spring extended the lead to 4-1 when she corralled a pass in the midfield from her sister, senior defender Leah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.) and pounded the ball into the net at the 60:09 mark.

Freshman defender Lyndsey Oppenheimer (Easthampton, Mass.) scored 10 minutes later, and DiGiovanni found Yowell in the 85^th minute who scored her team-leading 13^th goal of the season to lift Elms to the 6-1 victory.

Blazers' freshman goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) finished with two saves in the first 45 minutes of action, while junior net-minder Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) played the final 45 minutes and allowed just one score to help secure the win.

Carolina Franco (Redding, Conn.) registered eight saves in the loss between the pipes for the Nighthawks.
