Women’s Soccer Falls at Smith College, 3-0

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Elms College freshman goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) made two saves and freshman Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) fired two shots on net, but Smith College received scoring strikes from three different players and net-minder Cody Norris (Auburn, Mass.) stopped all five shots she faced to help lift the Pioneers to a 3-0 victory in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference women's soccer game in Northampton, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-5 on the season, while Smith improves to 4-2 overall.

Smith struck twice in the early going as Allie Rooney (Ludlow, Mass.) scored on a pass from Olivia Mallari (Waterford, Conn.) in the 12th minute of play and then connected a cross to Jordan Houston (Providence, Utah) who blasted a shot into the back of the net just over a minute later to give the Pioneers 2-0 edge.

After being outshot 12-3 in the opening 45 minutes, Elms' defense settled into a rhythm and limited Smith to just seven shots in the second stanza, while taking five of its own.

Rossignol placed two shots on goal and freshmen Hannah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.) and Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.) each added a shot on goal.

The Pioneers capped the scoring in the 80th minute of play when GiGi Ross (Colt's Neck, N.J.) netted an unassisted goal to lift Smith to its 3-0 victory.

Rooney had three shots on target in the winning effort.

Elms opens New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday, Sept. 22 when it travels to Regis College for a 11:30 a.m. start in Weston, Mass.
