Women’s Soccer Downs Daniel Webster College, 7-1

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshmen forwards Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) and Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) each scored twice as the Blazers posted a 7-1 victory over Daniel Webster College in Friday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 6-8-1 overall, 5-0-1 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster moves to 1-10-0 on the season, 0-6-0 in league play.

Elms scored five goals in the opening half as Pirog netted both of her goals, while junior defender Ally Witaszek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and freshmen forwards Hannah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.) and Emily Brown (Agawam, Mass.) each scored.

Brown added an assist during the period, while junior midfielder Victoria Cebula (Granby, Mass.) assisted on two scores in the opening frame.

Yowell added back-to-back strikes in the opening three minutes of play to start the second stanza, collecting a pass from freshman midfielder Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman defender Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) to score her team-leading 11th and 12th goals of the season.

Daniel Webster added a marker in the 55th minute of play when Alexis Pavelock (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored her fourth goal of the 2012 campaign off a throw in from Ema Donlagic (Belmont, N.H.).

Eagles' goalkeeper Jennifer Fredericks (Beacon Falls, Conn.) made 14 saves between the pipes in the losing effort, while the Blazers saw action in goal from Yowell, junior Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) and freshman Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.).

Elms returns to conference play on Saturday, Oct. 20 when it hosts Lesley University at 1:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
