Women’s Soccer Falls to Lesley University, 4-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshmen goalkeepers Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) and Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) combined to make six saves, but Lesley University used two goals and two assists by Veronica Halen (San Diego, Calif.) to best the Blazers, 4-0 in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms moves to 6-9-1 on the season, 5-1-1 in NECC action, while Lesley improves to 12-2-2 overall, and remains unbeaten in conference action at 7-0-0.

Lesley got on the board early in the game when Halen delivered a corner kick to Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) who found the back of the net just four minutes in to give the Lynx a 1-0 advantage.

The Lynx outshot Elms 12-1 in the opening half but Yowell made four stops to keep the Blazers' deficit at 1-0 at intermission.

Three minutes into the second half, Halen added her second assist of the contest on a corner, this time finding Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) who made a spectacular diving header to deposit the ball in the back of the net and give the Lynx a 2-0 lead.

Halen was then on the scoring end of the next two goals, finding the back of the net twice in a matter of 44 seconds to give Lesley a 4-0 cushion. Kate Ryder (Glastonbury, Conn.) assisted on the second of Halen's two scoring strikes.

Halen and Melinda Robinson (Plano, Texas) combined for seven shots on target in the winning effort, while Lesley goalkeeper Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, Pa.) didn't need to make a save in the shutout win.

Yowell and Elms' junior midfielder Chelsea Carroll (Meriden, Conn.) had the Blazers' only two shots of the contest.

Elms returns to NECC action on Thursday, Oct. 25 when it hosts Becker College at 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
