Women’s Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw with Regis College

WESTON, Mass. – Elms College freshman goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) made eight saves and sophomore midfielder Carmen Marino (Granby, Mass.) netted the equalizing goal in the 63rd minute of action to help pace the Blazers to a 1-1 draw with Regis College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game in Weston, Mass.

With the tie, Elms improves to 1-5-1 overall, 0-0-1 in NECC action, while Regis moves to 3-1-2 on the season, 0-0-1 in league play.

Regis delivered the first strike of the contest when Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) trailed teammate Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) who played the ball back to her and then scored knocking the ball past Elms' goalkeeper to give the Pride a 1-0 lead 15:05 into the game.

Following intermission, the Blazers found their rhythm as Marino blasted a shot from the top of the 18-yard box which soared over the keeper's head into the nylon tying the game at 1-1 at the 62:12 mark.

The Blazers had three chances in the final five minutes of play to score the go ahead goal, but Regis net-minder Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) turned aside a shot by Blazers' freshman forward Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.), and two Elms shots sailed off target as regulation ended even at one goal aside.

The Blazers had a pair of opportunities to score in the first overtime period and both teams had two chances in the second stanza of extra time, but neither team could find the winning goal as the contest ended in a draw with Gagnon making two saves and Elms' junior goalkeeper Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) adding a save during the two extra frames.

Both teams had 10 shots on goal as Gagnon turned away nine shots, while Rinaudo and Zisk combined to stop nine shots by the Pride.

Elms is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 25 with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tilt at Western New England University.
