Parks Named NEWBA Rookie of the Week
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – For the second straight week, Elms College freshman women's basketball player Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) was named New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week as announced by the organization on Monday.
Parks helped the Blazers to a pair of New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) road victories as Elms downed Mitchell College 69-58 and Lesley University, 73-29. Parks led all scorers with 29 points in the victory over the Mariners and repeated the feat with a 20-point effort against the Lynx to help the Blazers extend their winning streak to four games. Parks converted 54.8-percent (17 of 31) of her shots from the floor and 83.3-percent (15 of 18) of her free throw attempts. She also added 17 boards during the two-game week as well as two assists and two steals.
