Parks Named NEWBA Rookie of the Week
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Elms College freshman forward Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) was recently named the New England Women's Basketball Association's (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week as announced by the organization on Monday.
The NEWBA is an organization comprised of Division III head coaches from the New England region who have a vested interest in the welfare of the organization. There are weekly and yearly awards that are voted upon and at the conclusion of each season the NEWBA sponsors the Senior All-Star Classic which will take place in late March.
Parks, who was named the league's rookie of the week for the third straight week, guided the Blazers to a 2-0 week by averaging a team-best 19 points per game including a 26-point effort against Anna Maria College. She added a team-best 12 points against Bard College and finished weekly action with 14 rebounds (7.0 per contest), five steals and a blocked shot. This is her first NEWBA honor of the 2011-12 season.
