Three Men’s Volleyball Players Named All-NECC
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Elms College men's volleyball team had three players named 2011 All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) as announced by the league office on Monday.
Freshman middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) was named NECC Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-NECC first team. Junior middle hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) was also tabbed First Team All-NECC, while freshman setter Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) garnered Honorable Mention All-NECC honors.
Rainey helped Elms to a 6-2 record in conference action this season, notching 83 kills (2.96 per set), a team-high 77 digs (2.75 per set), 14 blocks, and an impressive .307 attack percentage. Rainey was twice named NECC Rookie of the Week in 2011.
Acosta downed a team-best 98 kills in 28 sets for an impressive 3.50 kills per set average and totaled a .289 hitting percentage during conference competition. He also recorded 25 total blocks and 46 digs en route to being selected to the All-NECC first team. Acosta was twice named NECC Player of the Week this season.
A converted setter in 2011, Lebron dished out 219 assists (7.82 per set) against league competition and added a team-high 18 service aces and 62 digs helping him to be named Honorable Mention All-NECC. For his efforts, Lebron earned three NECC Rookie of the Week awards this season.
