Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Past Lesley University, 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Elms College junior middle hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) downed a match-high 12 kills and junior opposite hitter Michael Kleckner (Bethlehem, Pa.) added 10 kills to help pace the Blazers to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-21) sweep of Lesley University in Monday night's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division and New England Collegiate College (NECC) men's volleyball match.

With the win, Elms has now won four straight to improve to 7-7 overall, 6-3 in NECVA action, and 4-1 in NECC play. Lesley falls to 1-14 overall, 0-9 in NECVA action, and 0-6 in NECC competition.

Leading 1-0 in the match, Elms held a slim 21-20 lead in the second frame before freshman middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) blasted a kill that sparked a 4-0 run that featured a kill and a solo block from Acosta to close out the set and give the Blazers a 2-0 advantage in the contest.

In the third stanza, Elms posted a 22-16 lead before Lesley responded with three straight points to pull to within three at 22-19. Elms' junior outside hitter Michael Martin (Enfield, Conn.) and Kleckner then added a kill each, while the Lynx's Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) added two of his own to set the score at 24-21 before Blazers' senior outside hitter Joshua Chagnon (Loudon, N.H.) sealed the frame and the match with the second of his two kills.

Martin finished with eight kills and Rainey added seven kills, while freshman setter Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished a match-high 30 assists, three service aces and added a match-best 15 digs in the winning effort.

Acosta added 11 digs, two solo blocks and an assisted block, while Kleckner and Chagnon collected nine digs each.

Lesley was led by Almeida-Beers' 10 kills, while Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, Calif.) contributed nine kills.

Stephen Siragusa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and William Lau (Charlestown, Mass.) delivered 14 and 12 digs each, while Lau handed out 24 helpers in the losing effort.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 19 when it travels to Boston, Mass. to take on Wentworth Institute of Technology and Southern Vermont College in tri-match action. The Blazers take on Wentworth at 11:00 a.m. and square off against Southern Vermont at 1:00 p.m.
