Hampton, Rainey Garner NECC Weekly Awards

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College had two student athletes earn New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly honors as announced by the organization on Monday.

Junior pitcher Courtney Hampton (Westfield, Mass.) was named NECC Pitcher of the Week in softball, while freshman middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) was named NECC Rookie of the Week in men’s volleyball.

Hampton posted a 1-1 record for the week, earning a 2-1 victory over Westfield State University before suffering a 5-0 loss to Worcester State University in game one of a doubleheader. She hurled 14.0 innings allowing six runs, five earned, on 16 hits while fanning three batters for the week. Hampton also contributed at the plate in the 2-1 win over the Owls going 1 for 2 with an RBI. This is Hampton’s second weekly award of the season.

Rainey earned his third NECC Rookie of the Week accolade after helping the Blazers to a 2-1 week after totaling 34 kills (3.09 per set), and a .364 hitting percentage. Rainey helped Elms reach the NECC title match by downing nine kills against Daniel Webster College in the semifinals. Rainey was also recently announced as the NECC Rookie of the Year by the league office.
