Men’s Volleyball Swings Past Regis College, 3-0

WESTON, Mass. -  Elms College sophomore middle hitter Wilfrido Fermin (Bronx, N.Y.) downed a match-high six kills to help lift the Blazers to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-15) sweep of Regis College in Thursday evening's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England men's volleyball match in Weston, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-5 overall, 2-1 in NECVA action, while Regis falls to 0-4 on the season, 0-3 in NECVA play.

In the opening set, junior outside hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) delivered three of his five kills to help the Blazers take an early 1-0 lead in the contest.

In the second frame, Elms held a 20-11 advantage and never looked back, using a pair of Regis errors to post a 25-13 second set victory and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third stanza, Fermin downed three of his match-high six kills and Acosta served up a trio of aces to help the Blazers complete the sweep.

Fermin downed his six kills on 10 swings with just two miscues to give him a .400 hitting percentage for the contest. Sophomore outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) added three kills on five swings with zero errors (.600), while junior outside hitter Michael Martin (Enfield, Conn.) finished with three kills.

Freshman setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) guided the attack with 14 assists, while freshman libero Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) notched a match-best 13 digs in the winning effort.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 29 when it hosts Newbury College and Mount Ida College in tri-match action beginning at 12:00 p.m.
