Men’s Volleyball Earns Split In Second Day Of York College Classic

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15) win over New York City College of Technology (City Tech) before falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-22) to New Jersey City University in day two action of the York College Classic in Jamaica, N.Y.

With the split, Elms moves to 10-14 overall.

Elms 3, City Tech 1

In Elms' 3-1 win over City Tech, junior outside hitter Michael Martin (Enfield, Conn.) led three Blazers with double-digit kills with 15, while junior opposite hitter Michael Kleckner (Bethlehem, Pa.) and junior middle hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) finished with 12 and 11 kills respectively.

With the match tied at 1-1, Elms won the next two sets and hit a sizzling .346 in the fourth to seal the victory.

Freshman setter Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out a match-high 41 assists, while freshman middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) collected match-best 15 digs to help seal the win.

City Tech was led by Vern Phillip who floored a match-high 19 kills, while Moshood Jinad added 13 in the losing effort.

New Jersey City 3, Elms 0

In the Blazers' loss to New Jersey City, Acosta downed a team-high 10 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) totaled a team-best seven digs.

Michal Kucza (Bayonne, N.J.) led all hitters with 13 kills, while Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba) paced the Gothic Knights' offense with 29 assists.

Elms returns to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division action on Thursday, March 17 at Newbury College. First-serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
