Men’s Volleyball Grounds Daniel Webster College, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. – Elms College junior middle hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) led three Blazers in double-figure kills with a team-high 16 to help Elms post a 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23) win over Daniel Webster College in Friday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division men's volleyball match at Vagge Gymnasium.

With the win, Elms improves to 9-11 overall, 6-1 in NECC play and 8-6 in NECVA action. Daniel Webster moves to 6-10 on the season, 4-4 in NECC action and 5-7 in NECA play.

After losing the first set 26-24, Elms stormed back and won the next three sets as Acosta led the Blazers with 16 kills on 35 attempts with just four errors (.343), while freshman middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) floored 15 kills and collected a match-high 14 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) added 14 kills and 10 digs in the winning effort, while Acosta added 12 digs as Rainey, Cameron and Acosta each finished with a double-double.

Elms' freshman setter Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) directed the charge with 49 assists, while junior outside hitters Michael Kleckner (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Michael Martin (Enfield, Conn.) combined for 14 kills.

Acosta and Rainey each notched three solo blocks.

Joe Walz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led Daniel Webster in defeat, downing a match-best 24 kills, while Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) totaled 11.

Kyle Clement (Weymouth, Mass.) dished out 43 helpers, while Andrew Smith (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Walz tallied 12 and 11 digs respectively.

Shannon and Walz each downed three service aces in the losing effort.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Friday, March 11 at the York Invitational Tournament.
