Men’s And Women’s Swimming Compete At Day One Of NEISDA Championships

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, V.T. – The Elms College men’s and women’s swim teams completed day one action at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships in White River Junction, V.T. on Friday.

The women’s team placed 13th out of 22 teams, while the men’s team finished seventh out of 12 after the first day of competition.

On the women’s side, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.), freshman Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.), junior Theresa Pitassi (Naugatuck, Conn.) and sophomore Ashley Arbo (Kensington, Conn.) improved upon their preliminary time from this morning to clock a 1:44.97 to set a new school record in the event and place sixth in the championship finals.

Dudunake finished sixth in championship finals of the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.35, while sophomore Katie Roberts (Torrington, Conn.) finished 13th (35.42).

Dudunake also won the consolation finals in the 50-yard freestyle, while Bird finished 12th. Arbo added a 12th place finish in the consolation finals of the 200-yard backstroke.

For the men, the team of sophomore Zach LeBarron (Bennington, V.T.), junior Adam Tonnesen (Norwich, Conn.), freshman Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) improved upon its time from this morning to notch a new school record of 1:31.48 in the championship finals of the 200-yard freestyle relay and a sixth place finish.

Brune placed ninth in the in the consolation finals of the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 29.03, besting his school record from this morning, while LeBarron placed third in the championship finals of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.99 to set a new school mark.

Tonnesen, Brune, junior Nick Whitman (Florence, Mass.) and LeBarron clocked a time of 3:51.77 in the 400-yard medley relay to set a new school record. The squad won the consolation finals of the event.

The teams return to action Saturday at the NEISDA Championships.
