WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, V.T. – The Elms
College men’s and women’s swimming teams completed day
three preliminary action at the New England Intercollegiate
Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships in White
River Junction, V.T.
The Blazers’ men’s and women’s 400-yard
freestyle relay teams each shattered records in their respective
events during morning action on day three. The men’s team of
sophomore Zach LeBarron (Bennington, V.T.), junior
Adam Tonnesen (Norwich, Conn.), senior
Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, Conn.) and freshman
Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) clocked a
sizzling 3:22.22. The women’s team of freshman Chalis
Bird (Windsor, Mass.), freshman Tessa Dudunake
(Northampton, Mass.), junior Theresa Pitassi
(Naugatuck, Conn.) and sophomore Ashley Arbo
(Kensington, Conn.) swam a 3:51.82. Bird also set a school
record during the first 100-yard freestyle leg of the race with a
57.14. Both teams will compete in the championship finals tonight
as the men finished fifth, while the women placed sixth.
On the women’s side, Bird turned in a 57.66 in the 100-yard
freestyle individual even to place 14th overall and earn a spot in
the consolation finals.
Dudunake set a new school mark in the 100-yard individual medley
with a time of 1:04.77 and finished fourth to secure her spot in
the championship finals. Arbo notched a 1:06.23 in the event to
place eighth and earn a spot in the consolation finals, while
freshman Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) earned
first alternate honors with a time of 1:08.65 in the race.
For the men, LeBarron finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in
a new school record time of 48.24 to cement his place in the
championship finals.
Tonnesen set a new school mark in the 100-yard IM with a 57.86 to
finish eighth, and recorded a 27.03 in the 50-yard backstroke to
garner 10th place honors. He will appear in the consolation finals
of both events this evening.
Sophomore Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.)
returns to the consolation finals in the 200-yard breaststroke
after placing 11th with a time of 2:30.48 during preliminary action
this morning.
Elms wraps up its 2009-10 season tonight with the championship and
consolation finals on the final day of events at the 2010 NEISDA
Championships.
