WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, V.T. – The Elms
College men’s and women’s swimming teams completed day
two action, Saturday at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming
and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships in White River
Junction, V.T.
After two days of events, the women’s team ranks 13th out of
22 teams, while the men’s team is seventh in the field of 13
teams.
For the women, the 200-yard medley team of sophomore
Ashley Arbo (Kensington, Conn.), freshman
Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.), freshman
Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) and freshman
Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) lowered their time
from the preliminaries and set a school record with a 1:56.96 to
finish sixth in the championship finals.
The squad of Bird, Dudunake, junior Theresa Pitassi
(Naugatuck, Conn.) and Arbo set a new school mark in the
800-yard freestyle relay (8:29.81) and Bird opened that race with a
new school record in the 200-freestyle by clocking a 2:07.47,
helping the Blazers to eighth place in the event.
Furtek finished with a 29.05 in the 50-yard butterfly with a time
of 29.05, while Arbo notched a 1:04.64 in the 100-yard
backstroke.
On the men’s side, the 200-yard medley relay team of senior
Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, Conn.), sophomore
Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.), sophomore
Zach LeBarron (Bennington, V.T.) and junior
Adam Tonnesen (Norwich, Conn.) improved upon their
school record time from this morning (1:45.39) by registering a
1:44.85 to finish sixth.
Freshman Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.)
placed 12th in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:46.43), while DiMauro
finished 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke notching a 1:06.45.
LeBarron bested his school record from the preliminaries in the
50-yard butterfly, clocking a 24.75 to finish sixth in the
championship finals of the event.
Gehring teamed with junior Nick Whitman (Florence,
Mass.), Brune and junior Joe King (Springfield,
Mass.) in the 800-freestyle relay to close out day two
action. The squad turned in a time of 8:14.27 to finish ninth in
the consolation finals of the event.
The teams wrap up their 2009-10 season Sunday in the third and
final day of competition at the NEISDA Championships.
