NEW LONDON, N.H. – Elms College freshman swimmer
Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) set a school
record in the 100-yard individual medley and added three wins,
while sophomore Zachary LeBarron (Bennington,
V.T.) set a new Colby-Sawyer pool record in the 50-yard
freestyle and won two events to pace the men’s and
women’s swimming team to a sweep of Colby-Sawyer College on
Saturday.
The women’s team earned a 130-113 win, while the men claimed
145-96 victory. The women’s team levels out at 2-2, while the
men’s team charges ahead to 2-0 on the season.
Dudunake clocked a sizzling time of 1:06:15 in the 100-yard IM to
set the new school mark. She also posted a first-place finish in
the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 33:26. The 200-yard
freestyle relay of junior Theresa Pitassi (Naugatuck,
Mass.), freshman Chalis Bird (Windsor,
Mass.), sophomore Ashley Arbo (Kennsington,
Conn.), and Dudunake also set a new school record,
combining to swim in a time of 1:47.81.
The Blazers notched three other first-place finishes on the day.
Arbo won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.57, Bird won
the 100-yard freestyle (59.61), and freshman Emalee Furtek
(Ludlow, Mass.) was the top finisher in the 50-yard
butterfly (29.99).
On the men’s side, LeBarron registered a winning time of
25.23 in the 50-yard butterfly and placed first in the 100-yard
freestyle (50.11) in addition to setting the Colby-Sawyer pool
record in the 50-yard freestyle (22.64).
LeBarron, sophomore Nick Provost (Three Rivers,
Mass.), junior Joe King (Springfield,
Mass.), and sophomore Garrett Brune (Lakeville,
Mass.) teamed together to win the 200-yard medley relay,
notching a time of 1:50.15.
Provost added a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:15.83),
while his time of 2:17.45 in the 200-yard butterfly was good enough
for first place.
Freshman Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.)
edged Colby-Sawyer's Ryan Martin in the 500-yard freestyle,
swimming a top-time of 5:23.69.
The men will host Bridgewater State on Friday, December 4 in their
2009 home opener at Partyka Natatorium. The women will compete at
the GNAC Championships beginning on Saturday, Dec. 5-6.
