CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore
Zach LeBarron (Bennington, V.T.) totaled four
first-place finishes and broke a pair of individual school records
to help pace the Blazers to a 134-97 victory over Bridgewater State
College in Friday evening’s men’s swimming dual meet at
Partyka Natatorium.
With the win, Elms College improves to 3-0 on the season, while
Bridgewater State moves to 1-4 overall.
LeBarron clocked a soaring time of 2:09.72 in the 200-meter
freestyle to set a new school record. LeBarron also swam the
opening leg of the 200-meter freestyle relay and recorded a time of
25.33 to set a new school mark.
LeBarron added individual victories in the 50-meter freestyle
(25.82), the 100-meter freestyle (58.05) and was the third leg of
the school-record setting 200-meter medley relay team that turned
in a speedy time of 2:01.20.
Sophomore Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) also
shattered a pair of school records, notching a time of 34.21 in the
50-meter breaststroke. Brune bested his own time of 1:17.71 (set
last season) by swimming a 1:16.13 in the 100-meter breaststroke.
He also swam the second leg during the record-breaking 200-meter
medley relay.
Freshman Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.)
won a pair of distance events, claiming a first-place finish in the
800-meter freestyle (9:57.10), and was the top finisher in the
400-meter freestyle (4:53.10).
Sophomore Nick Provost (Three Rivers, Mass.)
earned top honors in the 100-meter butterfly (1:08.83), while
junior Nick Whitman (Florence, Mass.) swam a 31:16
in the 50-meter butterfly to place first and round out the
Blazers’ top performers of the evening.
Senior Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, Conn.) and
freshman Joe Strzempko (Westfield, Mass.) joined
Brune and LeBarron as the first and last legs of the 200-meter
medley relay squad respectively.
For Bridgewater State, Sam Herman (Londonderry,
N.H.) finished first in the 50-meter backstroke (31.73)
and the 100-meter backstroke (1:08.05).
Elms returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 12 at UMass-Dartmouth.
Meet-time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
