Men's Golf Takes Third at WNEU Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Elms College men's golf team claimed third place on the leaderboard at the 2015 Western New England Invitational, hosted at Veteran's Golf Course Thursday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 319, finishing 11 strokes off the top of the leaderboard. Freshman Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led Elms with a third-place finish after firing a 75 in 18 holes. Sophomore Chris Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) took a share of tenth overall, shooting a 79. Junior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) came in tied at 14th after finishing with a 80, while freshman Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) was 29th with an 85. Sophomore Ryan Finneral (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers, taking 46th with a 94.


Host Western New England 'A' team won the event with a score of 308, followed by Endicott (313), Elms (319), Western New England 'B' and Salem State (320) composed the top five of the team leaderboard. Nichols (323) took sixth, trailed by Westfield State, Babson (350), UMass-Dartmouth (353), Springfield (367) and Eastern Nazarene (438) closed out the tournament field.

The Blazers will return to the course Saturday afternoon for the Wildcat Spring Invitational, hosted by Johnson & Wales (RI) at the Cranston Country Club in Cranston, Rhode Island.
