Men's Golf Finished Tenth at ECAC New England Championships

BERNARDSTON, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team posted another top-10 finish in their fall season, taking a share of tenth place at the 2014 ECAC New England Division III Championships, hosted at the Crumpin-Fox Golf Club over the weekend.

The Blazers carded a team score of 668 to finish in a tie at tenth with Castleton State College and Westfield State. Sophomore Chris Miele (S. Hadley, Mass.) earned All-Tournament Team honors with a fourth place finish on the individual leaderboard, shooting a 155 in 36 holes of competition. Senior Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) took a share of 34th with a 167, and freshman Mike Fleury (W. Springfield, Mass.) was three strokes back in 48th place (170). Junior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) shot a 179 for 82nd, and freshman Brian Cowles (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) rounded out the Elms golfers, posting a 187 after the two rounds.

Trinity College (Conn.) won the event with a team score of 622. Williams College (635) was second, followed by UMass-Dartmouth (648), Middlebury College (651), and Salem State and Endicott (657) made up the top 5 on the team leaderboard. Fellow New England Collegiate Conference competitors Babson College took eighth (662), and Newbury College was 20th (737). The individual champion was Grant Raffel of Williams College with a score of 151. Miele was joined by Raffel, Greg Palmer (Trinity), Zachary Temple (Castleton State), and Ross Hoffman (Williams) on the All-Tournament Team.

The Blazers will return to the links for their final event of the fall season, the 80th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship from October 25th-27th at The Captains Course in Brewster, Massachusetts.
