MYRTLE BEACH, Fla. – The Elms College men's golf team opened their spring season posting a second-place finish at the 2015 Myrtle Beach Shootout at the Barefoot Resort Tuesday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 348, finishing 15 strokes back of winner Gettysburg College, and Illinois College took third with a 357.

Freshman Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way for the Blazers, firing a team-low 83 (40-43). Sophomore Chris Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) shot an 85 (49-36), including a 36 on the back nine, matching the lowest nine-hole score of the event. Freshman Mike Fleury (Springfield, Mass.) registered an 88 (41-47) after 18 holes, while junior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) recorded a 92 (48-44). Sophomore Ryan Finneral (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers with a 97 (48-49).

"I felt like I hit the ball great today," said Cowles. "I had multiple birdie putts that I was unable to convert. I could really tell at some points during the round that this was my first round of the year."

The Blazers will return to the links on April 3rd and 4th at the Valley Country Club in Warwick, Rhode Island for the Rhode Island College Invitational.
