Men's Golf Takes Fifth at NEIGA Division III Championships
BREWSTER, Mass. - The Elms College men's golf team posted another top-5 finish in their final event of the fall, finishing fifth on the team leaderboard at the 80th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Division III Championships, hosted at The Captain's Course Monday afternoon.
The Blazers registered a team score of 322 on the day, to push their two-day total to 642. Sophomore Chris Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) took a share of 16th overall, shooting a 157 (80-77) in two rounds of action. Senior Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) was two strokes back in a tie at 24th with a 159 (80-79), while freshman Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) moved up to 41st with a one-stroke improvement to finish with a 163 (82-81). Junior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) dropped seven strokes from day one to take a share of 50th with a 165 (79-86), and freshman Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers, finishing at 54th with a 166 (81-85).
Rhode Island College won the event with a score of 615, firing a 299 on the final day of play. Babson took second with a 629, followed by Western New England in third (630), Husson at fourth (637), and Elms. Trailing the Blazers were Nichols College (644), Endicott (645), UMass-Dartmouth (647), Salem State and Tufts (649), University of New England and Castleton State (653), Johnson & Wales and Worcester State (656), Suffolk (661), Bates (679), Southern Maine (679), St. Joseph's (ME) (681), Wentworth (687), Roger Williams (696), Springfield (751), and MCLA (771).
The tournament was the final action for the Blazers men's golf team. They will be back on the course for the spring season.
