Men's Golf Second After 18 Holes at NECC Championships

STOW, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team is off to a good start after the first round of competition at the 2014 New England Collegiate Conference, sitting at second overall and just two strokes off the lead at the Stow Acres Country Club Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 311. Sophomore Chris Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) and freshman Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) led Elms on the course, each posting a 76 after 18 holes of play. The pair sit tied at second overall on the individual leaderboard. Senior Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) shot a 78 for a share of sixth place, while junior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.)  is tied at 11th with an 81. Freshman Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had a 91 to round out the Blazers golfers.

Babson leads the seven-team field with a 309, for a two stroke lead over the Blazers. Trailing Elms is Newbury in third (332), Daniel Webster at fourth (335), Becker in fifth (367), Springfield at sixth (368), and Mitchell rounds out the tournament field in seventh (411).

The Blazers will look to close the two-stroke gap on the final round of competiton at the NECC Championships Sunday afternoon.
