Men's Golf Fifth after Day One of NEIGA DIII Championships

BREWSTER, Mass. - The Elms College men's golf team owns the fifth spot overall on the team leaderboard after the first round of competition at the 80th NEIGA Division III Championships, hosted at The Captain's Course Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 320 to sit alone in fifth. Junior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) is tied at 14th overall after firing a 79 through the first 18 holes. Senior Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) and sophomore Chris Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) own a share after they each shot an 80. Freshman Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) is one stroke back in 29th with an 81, and freshman Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) sits one shot back of Fleury in 42nd with an 82.

Husson leads the event with a team score of 313, followed by Rhode Island College at 316, and Babson College and UMass-Dartmouth at 319, and Elms to round out the top five. Western New England is one shot back of the Blazers, trailed by Johnson & Wales in seventh with an 323, Castleton State (324), Endicott (325), Suffolk (310), Worcester State (310), University of New England (310), Salem State (327), Nichols State (327), Tufts (329), St. Joseph's (ME) (337), Bates (339), Wentworth (347), Southern Maine (349), Roger Williams (359), MCLA (382), and Springfield College (383) rounds out the team field.

The Blazers will look to move up the leaderboard when they return to the course for the second round of competition on Monday morning.
