Women’s Swimming Falls to University of New England, 177-84

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Elms College senior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) set a new University of New England pool record in the 200-yard freestyle and won three individual events but the Blazers fell, 177-84 to the Nor'Easters in Saturday afternoon's dual meet.  

With the loss, Elms concludes its dual meet season 5-8 overall. The Blazers return to action February 14-16 at the 2013-14 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at the University of Rhode Island.

DeGrazia notched a UNE pool record time of 2:02.53 to with the 200-yard freestyle and added a pair of top marks in the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.82) and the 100-yard freestyle (57.38).

Freshman Brianna Sylvester (Springfield, Mass.) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:22.30) and she and senior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) finished second and third in the 50-yard breaststroke with respective times of 37.16 and 38.19.

Freshman Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.50) and junior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) touched the wall third in the 50-yard freestyle (28.78).

The 200-yard medley relay tandem of senior Kelly Gilhooly (Bloomfield, Mass.), Sylvester, Will and DeGrazia notched second place in the event with a mark of 2:06.99.
