Women’s Swimming Edges Regis College, 138-124

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) set a trio of school records and notched a pair of pool records as the Blazers topped Regis College, 138-124 in Saturday afternoon's dual meet action at Partyka Natatorium.

With the win, Elms improves to 5-7 overall, while Regis moves to 2-6 on the season.

DeGrazia set new school and pool records in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.86) and the 800-meter freestyle (9:48.06) and clocked a new school mark in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 31.38. DeGrazia lowered all three of her school records but her pool mark in the 100-meter freestyle was previously set in 2000 by Keene State College, while her time in the 800-meter freestyle was last set in 2007 by Eastern Connecticut State University.

Freshman Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the 100-meter butterfly (1:17.22) and tabbed second place honors in both the 100-meter freestyle (1:08.50) and the 100-meter individual medley (1:16.93).

Freshman Brianna Sylvester (Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) and senior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) placed second, third and fourth in the 50-meter breaststroke with times of 40.48, 41.67 and 42.10 respectively. The trio finished in the same order in the 100-meter breaststroke with times of 1:30.43, 1:34.15 and 1:36.38.

Freshman Sarah Swart (Willington, Conn.) powered to a pair of second place marks in the 200-meter freestyle (2:39.89) and the 400-meter freestyle (5:41.77), while senior Kelly Gilhooly (Bloomfield, Mass.) clocked second place in the 50-meter backstroke (37.17), junior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) raced to second in the 50-meter freestyle (31.52) and freshman Madeline Heelon (Agawam, Mass.) tabbed second in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:28.11.

The 200-meter medley relay team of Gilhooly, Sylvester, freshman Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) and Aponte finished second with a time of 2:26.26, while the combination of Heelon, Calvanese, Archibald and senior Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) secured third with a time of 2:40.73.

The 200-meter freestyle relay tandem of DeGrazia, Aponte, Swart and Will won the race with a time of 2:03.89.  

Regis was led by Amanda Iandoli (Mansfield, Mass.) who won the 200-meter freestyle (2:34.16) and the 400-meter freestyle (5:27.08).

Elms concludes dual meet action on Saturday, February 1 with a 1:00 p.m. contest at the University of New England.
