Women’s Swimming Tops Norwich University, 103-48

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Elms College senior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) clocked a new school record in the 50-yard butterfly to help lift the Blazers to a 103-48 victory over the Cadets in Saturday's dual meet in Northfield, Vt.

With the win, Elms improves to 4-7 overall, while Norwich moves 0-8 on the season.

DeGrazia won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:16.21) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.61) in addition to setting a new school record in the 50-yard butterfly with an exhibition time of 28.37.

The Blazers placed first and second in the 1000-yard freestyle with freshman Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) earning second place (13:37.55) behind DeGrazia. Senior Kelly Gilhooly (Bloomfield, Mass.) and freshman Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) finished second and third in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 1:13.29 and 1:27.31.

Freshman Sarah Swart (Willington, Conn.) and O'Connell clocked respective marks of 2:18.48 and 2:43.64 to place first and third in the 200-yard freestyle and senior Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) added a time of 2:56.10 to finish fourth in the race.

Gilhooly and freshman Madeline Heelon (Agawam, Mass.) finished first and second in the 50-yard backstroke with times of 33.63 and 34.52; freshman Brianna Sylvester (Springfield, Mass.) (37.39), senior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) (38.70) and sophomore Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) (39.22) secured first, second and third in the 50-yard breaststroke; and freshman Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) (1:10.05), senior Jillian Francis (Methuen, Mass.) (1:39.70), and Konstantinidis (1:42.32) finished first, second and third in the 100-yard butterfly.

Gilhooly, Sylvester, Will and junior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) comprised the 200-yard medley A team and won the event in a time of 2:09.50, while the B squad of Heelon, Calvanese, Francis and Swart finished second with a time of 2:23.86.

Elms is back in action on Saturday, January 25 when it hosts Regis College at 1:00 p.m. at Partyka Natatorium.
