Tyler, Soutra Compete in the Pool

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College head swimming coach Bill Tyler and assistant coach Corey Soutra recently competed in several swim events throughout the New England region.

Coach Tyler competed in the Rhode Island Senior Games hosted by Rhode Island College on June 7 and came in first in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. He also placed first in the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly races, as well as the 100-yard individual medley.

On June 14, Coach Tyler competed in the Massachusetts Senior Games at Springfield College  and notched first place in the 50-yard, 100-yard, 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle. He also came in first in the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly. His results at these two meets qualify him for the Senior National meet next summer in St. Paul, Minn.

Coach Tyler followed those two outstanding performances with first place finishes in the 50-yard, 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly events at the Bay State Games at Springfield on July 19.

Coach Soutra was equally impressive, place first in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke, and the 100-yard individual medley races at the Rhode Island Senior Games.

She secured top finishes in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard individual medley events at the Vermont Senior Games on June 8. At the Massachusetts Senior Games, Coach Soutra powered to first place finishes in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events; as well as the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke races. She also qualified for next summer’s Senior National meet.

At the Bay State Games, Coach Soutra placed first in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke, and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard breaststroke.
