Women’s Soccer Roars Past Regis College, 6-1

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore midfielder Gianna Gorneault (Springfield, Mass.) scored three goals to help pace the Blazers to a convincing 6-1 victory over Regis College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 4-4-3 overall, 1-1-2 in league play, while Regis slides to 6-5 on the season, 2-3 in NECC action.

Gorneault put the Blazers ahead early when sophomore forward Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.) delivered a beautiful pass which she played into the net at 4:07 mark to give Elms a 1-0 lead.

The pair hooked up again in the 20th minute to give the Blazers a 2-0 advantage before Regis' Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) put the Pride on the board with a goal at the 36:09 mark.

Elms held its one goal cushion until the 64th minute when it exploded for three goals in four minutes. Sophomore defender Allyson Witaszek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) got the stretch started with her first goal of the season, followed by Gorneault's third strike of the afternoon on a pass from freshman midfielder Sevonnah LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.).

Senior forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) put the Blazers on top, 5-1 with her sixth goal of the 2011 season in the 68th minute, before LaRochelle netted a score of her own to cap the scoring at the 75:46 mark.

Elms' senior starting goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) made three saves in 76 minutes of action, while sophomore Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) added three saves in the winning effort.

Regis net-minder Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass.) suffered the loss and made seven saves.

Elms returns to NECC play on Wednesday, Oct. 12 when it travels to Southern Vermont College for a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
