CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms college junior goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) was recognized as the New England Collegiate Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday morning. This is Alvino's first player of the week award of the season, and is the third time she has received the award in her Blazers career.

Alvino had another solid week for the Blazers in between the pipes. IN a non-conference tilt against a tough opponent in Wheaton (Mass.) Samantha recorded her ninth game with double-digits in saves, making 17 stops against the Lyons. She followed that with a three-save performance in Elms' NECC opener at Becker. For the season, Alvino leads the NECC in saves with 173, and ranks second in save percentage (.808) and goals against average (3.09).

Alvino and the Blazers will be back on the field when they host Fitchburg State in a non-conference match at Leary Field on October 16th. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
