CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey squad dropped a non-conference tilt at Westfield State, falling 4-1 to the Owls at Alumni Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Owls had four different players register goals during the contest. Westfield got on the scoreboard in the 14th minute of play as senior forward Kelly Kenney knocked in a cross from sophomore forward Jenelle Juskiewicz.

The Blazers rallied back to knot the game at 1-1 when senior midfielder Imogen Leonard (Sharon, Mass./Sharon HS) delivered a crisp pass to senior forward Emma Morgan (South Kingstown, R.I./South Kingstown HS), who ripped a shot past Owls sophomore goalie Megan Fountaine.

With 5:56 to play in the first half, Westfield regained the lead on a rebound goal from freshman forward Rachel Bunce to give the Owls a 2-1 lead heading into the half.

Westfield State padded their lead with an unassisted strike from junior Allison Lucenta at the 42:56 mark of the contest. The Owls final goal came in the 61st minute when freshman forward Megan Evans scored at the left post, sending Westfield State to the 4-1 win.

The Owls outshot the Blazers, 34-8, during the contest. Elms junior goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) was clutch in goal, stopping a game-high 18 shots in the loss.

Elms moves to 1-8 overall, while Westfield State improves to 3-3 on the year. The Blazers will look to move back into the win column during a road trip to Union (N.Y.) on Tuesday, September 30th. Face off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
