WORCESTER, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team kept it close against the undefeated Worcester Polytechnic Engineers, but a pair of quick goals put WPI ahead for good in a 4-0 win over the Lady Blazers at Alumni Field Saturday afternoon.

After 15 minutes of scoreless play, Worcester Poly cracked the scoreboard as junior Amy Misera netted a pair of goals in less than two minutes. Misera's first goal came off a pass from senior midfielder Nicole Holmes, while her second tally was unassisted. The Engineers carried their 2-0 lead into halftime.

Just over one minute into the second half, WPI junior forward Caroline Mazzola extended the Engineers lead to 3-0 as she netted a one-time near the left post. With less than ten minutes remaining in regulation, Worcester Poly closed the door on the Blazers as sophomore forward Allie Buckley scored off a rebound to send WPI to the 4-0 win.

Worcester Poly outshot Elms, 30-2, during the contest. Blazers junior goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (0-5; Holtsville, N.Y.) was crucial in goal, making a game-high 15 saves, while Engineers junior keeper Lauren Puishys (5-0) made one save.

Elms moves to 0-5 on the season, while Worcester Polytechnic remain unbeaten at 5-0 overall. The Blazers will look to move into the win column in a home match against Anna Maria Tuesday afternoon. Face off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
