CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey squad was defeated by visiting Clark University, 4-0, in a non-conference match at Leary Field Thursday evening.

After nearly 20 minutes of back-and-forth play between the teams, the Cougars cracked the scoreboard as sophomore forwards Emily Smith and Madison Boardman connected as Smith converted a pass from Boardman to give Clark a 1-0 lead.

Less than a minute into the second half of action, the Cougars pushed their lead to 2-0 as sophomore forward Olivia Cotton netted an unassisted tally. In the 42nd minute of play, Clark padded their lead as junior forward Kayla Mulrooney took a pass from senior midfielder Kiah Murphy and placed a shot past Blazers junior goalie Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.), to push the Clark advantage to 3-0. The final strike from the Cougars came with 8:15 remaining on a goal from sophomore forward Lauren Mackey, to send Clark to a 4-0 win over Elms.

The Cougars outshot the Blazers, 28-7, during the contest. Alvino made a game-high 12 saves for Elms, while junior goaltender Christine Tinsman stopped two stops for Clark.

The Blazers slide to 0-7 on the season, while Clark improves to 4-2 overall. Elms will return to the field in a road match at Rivier on Sunday afternoon. Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
