Regis College Outlasts Field Hockey, 1-0

WESTON, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) turned away 12 shots and sophomore midfielder Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) added a defensive save, but a score by Regis College's Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) 10 minutes into the second half proved to be the game-winner as the Pride claimed a 1-0 victory in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game in Weston, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-11 on the season, 0-3 in NECC action, while Regis improves to 5-9 overall, 3-1 in league play.

After playing to a 0-0 stalemate in the first 35 minutes of action, Regis took advantage of a broken play in front of the net that resulted in a goal by Walls at the 45:42 mark giving the Pride a 1-0 lead.

Regis held a 15-4 shot advantage in the second half but just one found the back of the cage as Bonavita made nine of her saves during the stanza.

Pride goalkeeper Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) made a save and Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) notched a defensive save to preserve the shutout for Regis.

Elms returns to NECC play on Saturday, Oct. 22 when it hosts Becker College at 12:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
