CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) registered 15 saves but Westfield State University had five different players score a goal and Kathryn Kenney (Suffield, Conn.) notched a pair of assists to help pace the Owls to a 5-0 win over the Blazers in Thursday evening's non-conference field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms slips to 1-4 on the season, while Westfield State improves to 6-1 overall.

Kathryn Kenney helped Westfield State's offense get into rhythm when her pass found Jessica Donovan (Methuen, Mass.) who scored the game's first goal at the 20:17 mark.

Two minutes later, Kelly Kenney (Suffield, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal to put the Owls ahead, 2-0.

Holding a 2-0 advantage after halftime, Westfield State extended its lead with two quick goals, the first by Lauren Tavares (Tiverton, R.I.) and the second by Jessi Gould (Canton, Mass.) following a nice feed from Kathryn Kenney to give the Owls a comfortable 4-0 advantage.

Danielle Grenon (Somerset, Mass.) punched in the final goal of the evening on a pass from Tavares in the 66th minute of play to seal the 5-0 victory.

Bonavita notched 10 of her 15 saves in the first 35 minutes in the losing effort while her counterpart Amanda McCarthy (Franklin, Mass.) totaled five saves en route to her sixth victory of the season.

Westfield State's Sarah Pliszka (Enfield, Conn.) finished with seven shots on goal, while Gould had four.

Blazers' sophomore midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) added two shots on goal for Elms.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it travels to Bay Path College for a non-conference game set for 11:00 a.m.
