Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Trailing 1-0, Elms College freshman midfielder Ashley Reid (Enfield, Conn.) struck a shot just wide of the net following a penalty corner as time expired allowing Daniel Webster College to hang on for a 1-0 win in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-7 on the season, 0-1 NECC, while Daniel Webster improves to 3-4, 1-0 in NECC play.

After playing to a scoreless tie in the first 35 minutes of action, Daniel Webster broke the scoring drought 15 minutes into the second half when Courtney Brennan (Salem, Mass.) found the back of the net on a pass from Shelby Mortin (North Kingstown, R.I.) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 50:08 mark.

Daniel Webster held a 5-4 shot advantage in the second half and as time expired, the Blazers were given one last opportunity to even the score with a penalty corner, but the ensuing shot was wide of the net as the Eagles fought off Elms' late rally attempt.

Freshman forward Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) totaled two shots on net in the losing effort, while junior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita made three saves.

Daniel Webster was led by Brennan's three shots on target and a six-save effort from goalkeeper Amy Prince (Hope Valley, R.I.).

The Blazers return to non-conference play on Friday, Oct. 7 when they host Mercy College. Game time is 6:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
