Field Hockey Falls to Vassar College, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) posted seven saves, but Vassar College's Dara Davis (Guilford, Conn) netted two goals to lift the Brewers to a 3-0 victory in Thursday evening's non-conference field hockey contest at Leary Field.

With the loss Elms falls to 1-9 overall, while the win lifts Vassar to 6-6 on the season.

Vassar struck for its first tally in the eighth minute when Rebecca Smith (Woodland Hills, Calif.) scored giving the Brewers a 1-0 advantage which it held throughout the first half.

Vassar extended its lead early in the second half with Davis' first goal following a Maura McCarthy (Blue Bell, Pa.) blocked shot attempt. Five minutes later Davis scored again to increase the Brewers' lead to 3-0 at the 48:13 mark.

Elms' freshman goalkeeper Alysha Parsons (Newington, Conn) relieved Bonavita in the 52nd minute of play and registered two saves in the non-decision.

Blazers' freshman forward Tatiana Frizzell (Brattleboro, Vt.) recorded Elms' lone shot of the game.

Smith and Davis finished with two shots on net apiece for Vassar, while goalkeeper Maggie Brelis (Cambridge, Mass.) didn't need any saves to help secure the win.

The Blazers return to action when they travel to Boston, Mass. to square off against Wheelock College in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) game Saturday, Oct. 15.  Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
