Southern Vermont College Sweeps Women’s Volleyball, 3-0

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Elms College junior middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) totaled a team-best six kills and junior libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) added a team-best 10 digs, but Southern Vermont College used a 10-kill effort from Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, Calif.) and a 21-assist outing from Sheilani Kaleopa (Riverside, Calif.) to help the Mountaineers notch a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-11) sweep on Tuesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball match.

With the loss, Elms moves to 4-11 overall, 0-1 in NECC action, while Southern Vermont improves to 5-6 on the season, 2-0 in conference play.

Southern Vermont used a balanced attack between Delgado and Carrie Baltazar (Whittier, Calif.) who finished with 10 and nine kills respectively en route to hitting at a .301 clip as a team.

Vanessa Ruelas (Paramount, Calif.) led all diggers with 12, while Baltazar and Marrissa Flores (Azusa, Calif.) added nine each in the winning effort. Kaleopa added five service aces to her 21 assists and Nathalie Ruelas (Paramount, Calif.) delivered two assisted blocks.

Junior middle hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.) and sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied four kills each behind Pickett's six kills and sophomore setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 14 helpers for the Blazers.

Mack and Pickett each dug nine balls and Bolton and Larvey led Elms' service game with two aces each.

Elms returns to NECC action on Thursday, October 3 when it travels to Lesley University for an 8:00 p.m. contest against the Lynx.
