Women’s Volleyball Falls at Newbury College, 3-0
BROOKLINE, Mass. – Elms College junior middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) downed a team-high 10 kills but Newbury College hit .364 as a team and used a match-best 12 kills from Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) to help seal a 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-18) sweep in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball match at Hellenic College in Brookline, Mass.
With the loss, Elms moves to 5-15 on the season, 1-4 in NECC play, while Newbury improves to 12-12 overall, 5-0 in NECC action.
Elms' sophomore setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 17 assists and Pickett and senior opposite hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) led the squad in digs with eight each in the losing effort.
Sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) added three kills and seven digs, while Cowan contributed four kills.
Junior libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.), freshman Carolyn Campbell (Millers Falls, Mass.) and Mack each had two service aces in the loss.
McKenzie Kish (Eagle River, Alaska) helped drive the Nighthawks to a .364 hitting percentage behind a 26-assisst effort and added eight digs, while Lindsey Clark (River Edge, N.J.) notched six kills and five digs.
Meghan McDermott (Hampton, N.H.) totaled a match-high 14 digs to help lift the Nighthawks to victory.
Elms returns to NECC action on Tuesday, October 14 when it hosts Daniel Webster College at 6:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
