Women’s Volleyball Falls to Western New England University, Western Connecticut State University

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-19) to Western New England University and 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-21) to Western Connecticut State University in day two action of the Western New England Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

With the two losses, Elms falls to 0-6 on the season, while Western New England improves to 7-0 and Western Connecticut State improves to 5-1 overall.

Against the host Golden Bears, junior middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) and senior opposite hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) totaled two kills each, while sophomore setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out four helpers.

Sophomore setter Kelly Melanson (Waltham, Mass.) added a team-best five digs while sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) and junior middle hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.) chipped in four digs apiece.

Against the Colonials, Pickett and Cowan again tied for the team high in kills with four each, while Pickett led the Blazers with six digs, followed by five from Mack.

Bolton registered 10 assists while Searles accounted for three kills and four digs.
