Regis College Outlasts Women's Volleyball, 3-1

WESTON, Mass. – Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) tied for the match-high in kills with 11, but Regis College broke a 1-1 tie winning the third and fourth sets and used 11 kills from Vanessa Noesi (Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic) and 10 kills from Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) to help the Pride to a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-23, 25-9) victory in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball match at Higgins Court in Weston, Mass.

With the loss, Elms moves to 5-14 overall, 1-3 in NECC action, while Regis improves to 9-16 overall, 2-1 in NECC play.

Trailing 1-0 in the match, Elms responded in the second set as the Blazers used a kill by junior middle hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.) and one from Mack to break a 24-24 deadlock and seal a 26-24 victory in the frame and set the match level at 1-1.

The sides played to a 23-23 tie in the third stanza before the Pride used a kill by Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) and a solo block from Noesi to stake a 25-23 win in the third frame and give Regis a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth frame saw the Pride roar out to a 15-1 lead and eventually pull away to a 25-9 win in the set to complete the 3-1 victory.

Elms' sophomore setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 29 assists and dug nine balls, while senior opposite hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) and junior middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) floored eight kills each in the losing effort.

Cowan finished with nine digs and Pickett added eight behind a team-high effort from junior libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) (14) and a 10 dig-effort from Mack.

Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) led the Pride with a match-best 20 digs and Ramos added 12 digs to go along with her 29 assists. Ramos and Sam Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) each served up a trio of aces to help spark the win.

Elms is back in action on Saturday, October 12 when it travels to Newbury College for a 12:00 p.m. conference tilt.
